Hello everyone! I am bringing you a fun and simple hybrid craft that can also be a nice handmade Christmas gift for someone. I always have a difficult time choosing gifts for my boys’ teachers so I decided that this year I would make a Mason Jar Cookie mix gift. The fun thing about these is that they are totally customizable! You can choose whatever kind of cookie you like! This is what I did for mine.

Physical things you will need:

  • Mason jar
  • Adhesive or glue
  • Cardstock
  • Ribbon or twine to decorate your jar (you can get creative here)
  • Hole punch or even staple
  • Ingredients for cookies (listed below)
  1. I started by making a recipe card in my Photoshop elements program. I used Traci and Meg Mullen’s collaboration kit “Christmas Cheer”.

I created a 5.5×3.5 inch blank document in to create my recipe card. Once I did that, I went ahead and added my recipe, papers and embellished to my card just as I would a regular digital scrapbook page. I then printed the paper and used adhesive to glue my finished product to the cardstock.

Here is my finished digital product:

Here is the recipe I used:

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/3 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions :

  1. Layer the ingredients in a 1 quart jar in the order given. Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer.
  2. Include a card with the following instructions: Cowboy Cookie Mix in a Jar 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. 2. In a medium bowl, mix together 1/2 cup melted butter or margarine, 1 egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Stir in the entire contents of the jar. You may need to use your hands to finish mixing. Shape into walnut sized balls. Place 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets. 3. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes in the preheated oven. Transfer from cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.

Next I assembled all the ingredients into the jar as instructed. I tied some ribbon around the top of the jar and punched a hole into the top of my recipe card to attach it to the jar. Voila! A beautiful gift for a loved one, friend or teacher! The beauty of this gift is that you use any recipe you want and create your card accordingly. Have fun with it!
